Mentorship Applications Are Closed For 2022
Instructor: Deborah Paris
The Landscape Atelier Online Mentorship Program is a three month study program. The longer time frame gives you a chance to see real, substantial progress in your work that is difficult to achieve in shorter term classes and workshops.
Who is the Mentorship Program For?
Mentorships are for intermediate to advanced artists who want to work one on one with me for three months to focus on a longer term program for growth in their landscape painting skills and aesthetic approach to their work.
Mentorships are for artists who have taken at least one online class with me. This enables you to have a clear idea of my teaching philosophy and methods. It also enables me to better assess your skill level and needs so that I can design the best program for you.
For more about my teaching philosophy and online learning, you can listen to this podcast.
The Mentorship Program includes:
- An individualized program tailored to your goals (as expressed in your application and one on one initial conference)
- Initial Zoom Conference
- Weekly ‘check ins’ via email for answers to questions and feedback on work in progress.
- Review and critique—you may submit up to three paintings per bi-monthly conference (in advance). Critiques may include digital edits of your work available for discussion at your conference where appropriate.
- Although Mentorships are primarily focused on your own work, where appropriate specific exercises and assignments may be given to help you deepen your understanding in a particular study area.
- Bi-monthly Zoom video conferences (every two weeks)
- Access to the library of over 40 Atelier videos
- PDFs and other written content appropriate to your program
- The opportunity to discuss other questions related to your art career and growth as an artist, including studio management and productivity.
How the Mentorship Program Works
Mentorships are by application only. The application can be found at the link at the bottom of this page. Applications are accepted throughout the year. At any given time, there are up to four mentorship spots available. Availability of a mentorship spot at a particular time depends on my schedule and how many other students I am currently working with. Your application includes the opportunity to let me know your preferred dates to begin the mentorship. Once I receive your application you can expect a response within two weeks.
If your application is accepted, I will contact you via email to let you know and also to give you some general idea of the next available spots in the program. Upon acceptance to the Program the fee for the three month Mentorship Program of $1800 is due and payable. When you are accepted into the Program, you will receive a PayPal invoice that can be paid with PayPal or any major credit card.
Once your Mentorship fee is paid, we will agree on the exact starting date for your three month mentorship. Please Note: once started, this program must be completed in three consecutive months, so you should take that into account when scheduling. I will also provide you with available dates for our initial conference and your first two Zoom conferences. Zoom is easy and free for you to use. I will give you written instructions on how to connect to the meeting. Our Zoom meetings will be available for you to view and download to your own computer.
After our initial conference I will use our conversation and your application to create a plan to achieve your stated goals for the Mentorship.
You will email your images to me for review at least one full day prior to our scheduled Zoom conferences. You will need to be able to take good quality photos of your work (straight on and with accurate value and color).
At each Zoom conference we will discuss your work from the prior two weeks and you will be able to see your work and the edited version on the screen and other examples that will help you understand the lesson.
What You Need to be Able to Participate
You will need a computer, laptop or tablet with a wifi or hot spot connection to the internet. A cell phone is ok but you won’t be able to see the examples on the screen very well so I don’t recommend using it for Zoom conferences.
You will need a cell phone or camera that takes good photos of your work (straight on and with accurate color and value) and you will need to email those to me.
